If you are asylum seeker and you need help, please write a little about your situation to us, and we will get back to you soon.
Refugees in Denmark are increasingly exposed to xenophobia and racism. Tightening of the immigration laws means that some refugees are being treated unjustly when seeking asylum in Denmark.
Every year a number of rejected asylum seekers feel forced to live underground in Denmark out of fear of being sent back to the country they have fled. Our aim is to get these people above ground again, and we do not hide people.
The Committee for Underground Refugees has numerous examples of asylum seekers whose claims are initially rejected but who are granted asylum after an appeal and a period underground. The Committee provides legal assistance to rejected asylum seekers.
The Committee for Underground Refugees’s main focus is on legal assistance. To make an appeal, volunteers try to gather new information on the country of origin, find a new lawyer (if necessary), and obtain a medical report. The new information sometimes leads to a successful appeal.
Beside legal assistance to refugees we participate in the public debate about asylum politics and work together with other NGOs in this field.
The Committee for Underground Refugees tries to send a message to the Danish society that the immigration laws are subjecting some asylum seekers to unfair treatment and that as a consequence people are living underground in Denmark.
